Singapore Food Festival returns in October: Masquerade ball, heritage Malay feast, epic Ramayana meal

The annual Singapore Food Festival will return from  Oct 1 to 31 in the form of more than 20 happenings spread out all across the city celebrating Singapore’s food culture.
Instead of the usual festival village, this year’s event, themed “A Celebration of Old and New”, will feature immersive experiences, some blended with entertainment, set in striking locations.
Signature events include Future Food held on Oct 10 at Marquee Singapore, a showcase of futuristic techniques and culinary innovation where chefs like Zor Tan of Restaurant Born, Hafizzul Hashim of Restaurant Fiz and Emmanuel Stroobant of Saint Pierre and Shoukouwa will aim to challenge the traditional dining and imbibing experience.
There’s also The Long Table on Oct 17 and 18 at CHIJMES Hall, where a four-course lunch menu or six-course dinner menu crafted by chefs Damian D’Silva of Rempapa, Marvas Ng of Path and Cheryl Koh of Tarte by Cheryl Koh will be served amid live ballet performances.
Then there’s a gallery-style exhibition titled Food Is Art on Oct 19 at Digital Light Canvas by teamLab, Marina Bay Sands, which will feature installations like pastry chef Janice Wong’s chocolate sculptures and a display exploring the relationship between plants and music.
In addition, a series of “Unique Events” held at various restaurants will blend gastronomy with immersive storytelling.
For instance, Path will host a Chinese tea ceremony with dance performances on Oct 2, offering a cultural exploration of tradition and modernity.
At Harummanis on Oct 7, chef Akmal Anuar will collaborate with his mother Raja Paridah for a meal combining traditional Malay culture with contemporary culinary interpretations.
At Firangi Superstar on Oct 8, the ancient Indian epic The Ramayana will be brought to life through food and performance.
Alkaff Mansion will host a party on Oct 11 reinterpreting the world of Singapore’s elite in the 1920s, with dance performances inspired by the Charleston and Lindy Hop and cocktails crafted in the spirit of the golden age of mixology.
And at 1-Flowerhill on Oct 31, there’ll be a masquerade ball with live opera and masked performers themed “The Phantom on the Hill”, while over at Jiak Kim House on Oct 12, Chinese opera will be the theme.
Other participating restaurants include Cenzo, Level33, Yantra and Neon Pigeon.
Malls and other locations around the country will also host pop-up events: Family-friendly showcases offering bite-sized food from top chefs.
New events will be announced weekly up until the festival’s launch.
Singapore Food Festival 2024 is held in collaboration with Blake Harris Entertainment, a global events agency specialising in immersive experiences.
